Tour Guide at Wofford College
Class of 2023
Hometown: Lewiston, ME
Secondary Major: History
My favorite Wofford Professor is Dr. Eric Kocher. I have very much enjoyed his class due to his enthusiasm and dedication to what he teaches. He finds many ways to incorporate the material learned in class to real-world applications. He pairs this technique with providing students the opportunity to partake in critical, meaningful thinking and present thoughts through our writing. On top of all this, he is a really cool guy that jokes around in class and takes the time to get to know each student and what they desire to get out of his class.
I have seen every broadcast that David Attenborough has been a part of including but not limited to... planet earth, our planet, blue ocean, and night on earth.
I chose Wofford because of the sense of tight-knit community not just on campus but within the Spartanburg community and beyond. I am originally from Lewiston Maine but wanted to experience life out of my comfort zone while pursuing my college education. I applied to 26 different schools, so you could say my search was thorough. 9 of these were in North and South Carolina including Wofford, Duke, Elon, Unc, Wake Forest, etc. Once accepted I toured each one. Wofford was certainly not one I had considered high on my list until I toured it. After my tour, however, I was certain this is where I wanted to call home for the next four years. I based my decision on three aspects which were opportunity, community, and comfort and Wofford was the only one that I felt had all three.
My Advice to incoming students is to come in with a positive open mind with everything you do. You are presented with so many new and exciting opportunities and having an open mind will contribute to the success you will find if you take advantage of these opportunities
