Tour Guide at Wofford College
Class of 2021
Hometown: Spartanburg, SC
Concentration: Political Theory
I grew up and Spartanburg and am the daughter of a Wofford alumni, so I originally thought Wofford would be too close to home. However, as I started to look more seriously into schools I was drawn to Wofford and all that they stand for. From the moment I stepped on campus for a tour, I could tell that Wofford would be a place where every student is more than just a number. I looked around and saw students striving to be more than just classroom learners. I saw students walking to class and greeting each other with smiles, professors stopping to talk with students, and a genuine contentment among those on campus.
My favorite professor is Dr. Robert Jeffrey in the government department. Freshman year I took one of his classes randomly, and now I’m in my fourth class with him and switched to a government major because of his advice and wisdom. His passion for the material he teaches is matched with his knowledge. I never thought I would enjoy studying Aristotle, Plato, and Machiavelli, but Dr. Jeffrey managed to make it all enjoyable and exciting. He’s also a professor that cares about his students and will check in if you’re ever out of class. He’ll meet with everyone individually to make sure that students are retaining information and doing well in the class. But best of all, he’ll sometimes hold class at his house with his wife and feed us all dinner.
For my sophomore year interim I interned with a company called Packed Party in Austin, TX. I moved to Austin by myself for the month and lived with an AirBnb host and had to learn how to navigate public transportation. Without interim, I never would have been able to work for my dream company and explore Austin!
